Why Choose Cambridge

As a discerning parent, you’re carefully evaluating your options among San Diego Christian schools and are seeking the best education for your children. There are many factors to consider when evaluating a school. We invite you to consider the following when looking at The Cambridge School:

Growing School
The Cambridge School is one of only a handful of San Diego Christian Schools. With a growing reputation of distinct academic offerings and Christian teachings, The Cambridge School has experienced remarkable growth. For example, in its first three years, we have grown from 9 students to 87 students. An increasing number of discerning [parents] are placing their trust in our skilled faculty and dedicated board and staff to provide an outstanding education for their children.

Classical Christian Model
Different than most San Diego Christian schools, The Cambridge School takes advantage of the time-tested classical Christian educational model. This model combines the classical tools of learning within the framework of a Christian worldview. The result is an education that is academically challenging and spiritually enriching. Students who complete this education will be equipped to be leaders in their churches, communities, workplace and world.

Small Class Sizes
A key success factor in education is the quality of interaction a student can have with his or her instructor—especially in the elementary years. Because of this recognition, The Cambridge School board is committed to maintaining an ideal cap of 18 students per class, with averages in the eventual upper school grades (the dialectic and rhetoric stages) expected to be lower.

Outstanding Faculty
Each of our elementary teachers holds an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) and have a strong passion for learning and teaching. As they combine their training in classical Christian education with a desire to deeply shape the lives of their students we are seeing students gain a strong delight in learning and love for God.

Integrated Curriculum
Biblical principles go hand-in-hand with academic offerings at The Cambridge School. The Cambridge School faculty work hard to integrate its curriculum across three different dimensions:

  1. Subject-matter – Subjects are not taught in isolation, but collectively, so that students can understand the integration of ideas across math, architecture and science, for example.
  2. Christian – The Bible is not only taught as a subject matter, but as the foundational document for understanding all matters of truth and faith. Every subject is evaluated and understood from a Christian worldview. Faith is also seen as a matter of personal relationship, not just a topic of study.
  3. Chronologically – Starting in second grade, students approach all their subjects within the confines of a specific period in world history (giving particular focus to Western history).
    1. Early history – creation to Mesopotamia – 2nd and 7th grades
    2. Greco/Roman history – up to the end of the Roman Empire – 3rd and 8th grades
    3. Middle Ages to Renaissance/Reformation -4th and 9th grades
    4. Imperialism to Nineteenth Century – 5th and 10th grades
    5. Modern History – 6th and 11th grades
    6. Senior Thesis – 12th grade – during a student’s senior year he or she will research and prepare a dissertation on an original topic which will then be presented and defended before a group of peers and faculty.

Arts are part of our core curriculum
In a classical education, the arts are considered just as foundational as language, math and science. Consequently, the subjects of music, art, and theater will never be considered extra or expendable.
