Recently, our fourth grade Cambridge student participated in Composition Cafe as part of their progymnasmata exercises. After re-telling and re-writing their own version of various Aesop’s Fables, they recited, identified and discussed figures of description in each of their writing. Figures of description, like geographia, dendographia, dialogismus, and ecphrasis were identified by these fourth graders!
You may be wondering…what is Progymnasmata? Progymnasmata (a.k.a. Progym) are rudimentary exercises intended to prepare students for the creation and performance of oration. As part of the classical education, our students are being trained to read well, think logically and communicate eloquently.
