Mt. Olympus Day at The Cambridge School

Added By: cambridge on March 9th

Third-grade students, dressed as Zeus, Aphrodite, and other Greek mythological gods and goddesses, began Mt. Olympus day with the lighting of the Olympic torch followed by reader’s theater, pastry making, and their very own mini-Olympics.

“This event was a culmination of what we have been learning in third grade, which is the study of Greek mythology in literature and Ancient Greece in history,” said Dr. Bindu Philip, third-grade teacher.

Integrating various subjects and disciplines are a part of the classical Christian education at The Cambridge School. Immersing themselves into the Greek history and mythology, students took part in reciting the Olympic Oath, making baklava, eating a Greek feast, and participating in a Greek dance and mini-Olympic events, such as javelin throw, mini-marathon, and relay races.

Next Open House is on Friday, March 12 from 8:15-9:45 a.m. for pre-kindergartners through fifth grade.

Composition Cafe

Added By: cambridge on March 3rd

Recently, our fourth grade Cambridge student participated in Composition Cafe as part of their progymnasmata exercises. After re-telling and re-writing their own version of various Aesop’s Fables, they recited, identified and discussed figures of description in each of their writing.  Figures of description, like geographia, dendographia, dialogismus, and ecphrasis were identified by these fourth graders!

You may be wondering…what is Progymnasmata?  Progymnasmata (a.k.a. Progym) are rudimentary exercises intended to prepare students for the creation and performance of oration.  As part of the classical education, our students are being trained to read well, think logically and communicate eloquently.
